Boys to BAMMAZ | After-School Mentorship for Young Men

Boys to BAMMAZ

Helping young men become Better At Managing My Assets.

Boys to BAMMAZ is an after-school mentorship program designed for middle-school through high-school young men in the District of Columbia.

The program is built around the BAMMAZ philosophy:

Better At Managing My Assets.

Those assets include more than money.

A young man’s time, health, choices, relationships, reputation, skills, opportunities, and future all have value.

Boys to BAMMAZ helps participants learn how to recognize that value, protect it, and make better decisions with it.

More than an after-school program

Boys to BAMMAZ is designed to create a consistent space where young men can learn, talk, think, practice skills, and build stronger habits.

The program meets:

Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday
Starting at 4:45 PM

The three-day format allows participants to build consistency instead of receiving one-time advice and being expected to figure everything out alone.

The goal is not to lecture young men.

The goal is to give them tools they can actually use.

What Boys to BAMMAZ focuses on

Life skills

Participants develop practical skills for handling responsibilities, making decisions, solving problems, communicating effectively, and becoming more independent.

Topics can include:

  • time management
  • goal setting
  • communication
  • accountability
  • conflict resolution
  • decision-making
  • personal responsibility
  • problem solving
  • workplace readiness
  • entrepreneurship

Financial literacy

Young people begin making financial decisions long before most of them receive meaningful financial education.

Boys to BAMMAZ introduces concepts including:

  • budgeting
  • saving
  • income
  • expenses
  • debt
  • credit
  • assets
  • investing
  • entrepreneurship
  • risk
  • wealth-building

Participants can also learn through BAMMAZ N THE HOOD®, where many of those concepts become part of an interactive game experience.

Wellness and emotional development

Strong decision-making requires more than knowing the right answer.

Young men also need space to understand emotions, stress, pressure, relationships, and the situations that influence their behavior.

Boys to BAMMAZ can incorporate conversations and activities around:

  • emotional awareness
  • stress management
  • healthy coping strategies
  • communication
  • self-control
  • peer pressure
  • asking for help
  • building healthy relationships

The program is mentorship and skills development, not a substitute for professional mental-health treatment. When a participant needs services beyond the scope of mentoring, families should be connected with appropriate qualified resources.

The BAMMAZ philosophy

BAMMAZ stands for:

Better At Managing My Assets

For a young person, an asset can be:

Time
How you use your time affects what you can build.

Health
Your physical and emotional health affect everything else you want to accomplish.

Education
Knowledge and skills create options.

Reputation
Your decisions influence how people trust and respond to you.

Relationships
The people around you can strengthen your position or weaken it.

Money
Learning how to manage money early can change future opportunities.

Freedom
Decisions that create unnecessary legal risk can affect years of opportunity.

Talent
Skills become more valuable when they are developed and used intentionally.

The purpose of Boys to BAMMAZ is to help young men recognize that they already have assets worth managing.

Better decisions create better positioning

A major part of the program is helping participants understand that one decision can affect multiple parts of life.

A decision involving money can affect housing.

A decision involving friends can affect freedom.

A decision involving school can affect future earning power.

A decision involving health can affect the ability to work.

A decision involving reputation can affect future opportunities.

That is why BAMMAZ focuses on positioning.

The question becomes:

Does this decision put me in a better position or a worse one?

That question can become a practical tool young men carry outside the program.

Prevention before crisis

Boys to BAMMAZ also connects with the principles behind BAMMAZ S.L.I.P. — Subsequent Lifestyle Intervention & Prevention.

Participants can learn to identify risks involving:

  • peer pressure
  • substance use
  • gambling and sports betting
  • legal consequences
  • sexual health
  • unplanned responsibilities
  • negative relationships
  • financial behavior

The goal is to identify risk before it becomes a crisis.

That is protective positioning.

Who is Boys to BAMMAZ for?

The program is designed for young men in:

Middle school
through
High school

especially those who could benefit from:

  • consistent mentorship
  • positive male guidance
  • stronger life skills
  • financial education
  • accountability
  • better decision-making tools
  • exposure to entrepreneurship
  • structured after-school support

A participant does not have to be “in trouble” to benefit from mentorship.

Mentorship can also help prevent trouble.

Parents can enroll. Sponsors can invest.

Boys to BAMMAZ is being developed as a paid mentorship program.

Parents and guardians can invest directly in their young man’s participation.

The program also allows individuals, businesses, and organizations to Sponsor a BAMMA, helping provide access for a young person whose family may need financial support.

That creates two paths:

Enroll a young man

or

Sponsor a young man

Both support the same objective:

Giving young men more tools, more guidance, and better positioning.

Building young men who understand their value

Boys to BAMMAZ is not about creating perfect young men.

It is about creating young men who understand that their decisions have value.

Young men who can recognize opportunities.

Young men who understand consequences.

Young men who know how to manage money.

Young men who understand that their time matters.

Young men who know when to ask for help.

Young men who can recover from mistakes.

Young men who understand that:

Every piece has a purpose.

And that includes them.
